The next category in aggregate operator of LINQ is Average operator which is used in by Three ways simple Average , Average with Projection and Average Grouped. In this article we discuss about first two categories.

  • First we discuss about the simple Average operator by using a simple example. you can write this code in vb.net and by getting the output you understand the working of Average operator.

        EXAMPLE CODE

          Module Module1
                Sub Main()
                     Dim Values() As Integer = {9, 6, 56, 34, 23, 76, 45, 76, 1, 23, 67, 7}
               Dim AvgNum = Values.Average()
               Console.WriteLine("The average number from all the numbers is: " & AvgNum & ".")
                     Console.ReadLine()
                End Sub
          End
Module

  • The second category of Average operator is Average with Projection this operator is used to find out the projected Average value. Like find out the Average length of a word from the given words.

         EXAMPLE CODE

            Module Module1
                Sub Main()
                     Dim Names() = {"manish", "rahul", "raju", "omprakash"}
               Dim Avglength = Names.Average(Function(i) i.Length)
               Console.WriteLine("The average length is {0} characters.", Avglength)
                     Console.ReadLine()
                End Sub
           End
